What ChatGPT and Claude give you when you ask for a Maps list
ChatGPT and Claude answer from web search: they find pages about the businesses you asked for and cite them. Neither help page describes collecting every listing in a Maps search, with each one's phone and email, into a file.
ChatGPT's search help page says search works on every plan, even signed out, and that local results can include nearby businesses. It also warns that results and citations can be incomplete, outdated or incorrect, so check what comes back.
Claude's web search works on free accounts too, answers with citations, and counts toward your usage limits, as Claude's help page explains.
ChatGPT's agent mode, which worked in a browser of its own, is no longer offered: on October 28, 2026, its help page pointed to ChatGPT Work instead. ChatGPT Work is for eligible paid plans and can create a spreadsheet.
| Tool | Who can use it, by its help page | What you get back |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT search | Every plan, signed in or not | An answer with links to its sources; local results can include nearby businesses |
| ChatGPT Work | Eligible paid plans | Longer tasks that end in a file, such as a spreadsheet |
| Claude web search | Free and paid plans, within usage limits | An answer with citations |
| Maps Scraper Pro's chat | Anyone with the extension, free, with a daily message limit | The businesses the Maps search lists, up to the number you ask for, with emails from each website, as Excel, CSV or JSON |
Use them to plan a search or to write about a list you already have. For the list itself, use a tool that collects the Maps search.
The Claude app and ChatGPT's browser: what they do on Maps
Claude in Chrome is a browser extension that, in its help page's words, lets Claude "read, click, and navigate websites alongside you". It can open a Maps search in a tab and read what's on the screen, one page at a time, and it's for paid Claude plans.
ChatGPT's own browser, Atlas, has been retired: on October 28, 2026, its help page said it "no longer receives updates". For longer tasks that end in a file, OpenAI's help pages now point to ChatGPT Work.
Neither help page describes collecting every listing in a Maps search, with each business's phone and email, into a file. A browser agent works through a page the way a person would, so a search of 120 businesses means 120 listings to open and read in turn, within your plan's limits.
Maps Scraper Pro's chat works the other way round: the AI picks the search, and the extension collects the listings itself, so the list doesn't depend on a model reading each one. How chat runs a Maps search has the details.
Building a Maps scraper in n8n or Claude Code
Both routes suit a feed that runs on a schedule, or code of your own, and both take setup. The listings still have to come from somewhere: in n8n, a Maps data service you call, and in Claude Code, whatever source the code it writes reads.
- n8n is a workflow tool. Its HTTP Request node calls any service with an API and keeps the key in n8n's credentials, so a Maps workflow calls a data service from there.
- n8n's cloud plans start at 20 euros a month, billed yearly, with a free trial; a self-hosted version is on GitHub.
- Claude Code is an AI coding tool for the terminal, an editor, a desktop app or a browser. Its docs say most of those need a Claude subscription or an Anthropic Console account, and that it connects to outside tools through MCP servers.
- A data service bills by the record. Outscraper's pricing page, for one, lists its first 500 Maps businesses free every 30 days, then $3 per 1,000 up to 100,000.
| Route | What you need | What it costs, from its own pages | Where it runs |
|---|---|---|---|
| n8n with a Maps data service | An n8n account or your own server, the data service's API key, and a workflow | n8n Cloud from 20 euros a month billed yearly, plus the data service per 1,000 records | n8n's cloud, or your server |
| Claude Code with a Maps data service | A Claude subscription or Console account, the data service's key, and the code it writes for you | The Claude plan, plus the data service per 1,000 records | Your computer, or Claude Code on the web |
| Maps Scraper Pro's chat | Chrome and the extension | Free, with no charge per row | Your Chrome browser |
At those Outscraper prices, 1,000 businesses in one month would cost $1.50 for the records, before any n8n or Claude plan. Prices change, so check each tool's own page on the day.
Asking an AI that runs the Maps search for you
A scraper's own chat turns your sentence into the search, and the extension collects the real listings in your browser. There's no workflow to build and no key to paste.
Step 1: Say what you want
In Maps Scraper Pro's chat, type the kind of business, the place and how many, such as "Find 100 pest control companies in Phoenix with emails".
Step 2: Let it collect
Chat runs the Maps search in a tab, and the extension collects each business, reading its own website for emails, phones and social links as it goes.
Step 3: Tidy it and download it
Ask for the rows and columns you want, then download the list as Excel, CSV or JSON.
The AI picks the search and the tidying, and never makes up a business. Every row comes from a Maps listing and that business's own website.
One job from start to finish, in five messages
Here's one kind of request from start to finish: pest control companies in three towns next to each other, cut down to the ones worth emailing. Each step is one message, with what comes back after it.
Step 1: Ask for the first town
"Find 100 pest control companies in Phoenix with emails". A Maps tab opens, and the panel counts the businesses as they arrive, then how many have an email.
Step 2: Add the next towns
Click the card chat offers for a nearby town, or type "Now Mesa", then "Now Tempe". Each search is saved as a list of its own in History.
Step 3: Combine them
"Combine the 3 searches into one table", or click the card that says so. The new list starts with a Location column, and a business found in two towns is kept once.
Step 4: Keep the ones worth emailing
"Only rows with an email and a rating of 4 or more, highest rated first". The results page shows both filters above the table, and Clear filters brings every row back.
Step 5: Shape the file and download it
"Only name, phone, email, website and location. Rename Business Name to Company. Download as CSV". The file holds only those columns, with Company in place of Business Name.
| Location | Company | Phone | Emails | Website |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phoenix | Desert Shield Pest Control | (602) 555-0147 | [email protected] | desertshield.example |
| Phoenix | Saguaro Termite & Pest | (602) 555-0182 | [email protected] | saguaropest.example |
| Mesa | Superstition Pest Pros | (480) 555-0126 | [email protected] | superstitionpest.example |
| Tempe | Papago Bug Busters | (480) 555-0194 | [email protected] | papagobugs.example |
The job takes five messages of chat's daily allowance. The chat page explains the limit, how it searches past one Maps search, and what it sends to our servers.
When chat doesn't get the list you wanted
Most misses come from asking the search for something it can't do. It takes a kind of business, a place, a number and a distance, and everything else happens on the list afterwards.
| What happened | Why | Type this instead |
|---|---|---|
| You asked for businesses that need a website and got every business | The search can't filter by website | "Find 100 roofers in Mesa", then "Only rows where Website is empty" |
| You asked for 2,000 and got 1,000 | One request collects up to 1,000 | Ask town by town, then combine the searches |
| Fewer than you asked for | The area ran out of new businesses within the distance searched | Add a distance, such as "within 10 km", or ask for a nearby town |
| You asked for the owners' names | The list has what each business publishes, not people's details | Use Business Name, and the emails from its website |
| You asked chat to write an email to these | Chat collects and tidies; it doesn't write or send messages | Download the list and use ChatGPT or Claude for the words |
| "With emails" still left rows without one | Reading websites adds emails where they exist; it doesn't drop the rest | "Only rows where Emails is filled" |
Using ChatGPT or Claude once you have the list
ChatGPT and Claude help most once the list exists: grouping it, checking it and drafting words. Give them the downloaded file and ask about its columns.
- "Group these businesses by Location and count each town."
- "Which rows have a Review Count under 20? List them by Company."
- "Draft a two-line first message to a pest control company that names its town."
- "Check the Phone and Emails columns before I import this file. Are any malformed?"
Uploading the file sends real businesses' contact details to that service, so read its data terms first. Maps Scraper Pro never sends the rows you collect to us; the privacy policy says what it does send.
Write the final messages yourself from those drafts, and read each one before it goes out.
Which way fits you
Pick by what you need at the end: a list today, a feed on a schedule, or code of your own.
| You want | Use |
|---|---|
| A list of businesses today, with emails, as a file | Maps Scraper Pro's chat |
| New businesses fed into a CRM every week | n8n with a Maps data service; the extension doesn't run on a schedule |
| Your own code that you maintain | Claude Code with a Maps data service |
| Many towns or zip codes in one run | Maps Scraper Pro's Bulk, with a list of Maps search links |
| Ideas for which businesses to target | ChatGPT or Claude |
Bulk collects a list of Maps search links in one run, without chat. For lists you build for clients, city by city, see lead lists for clients.
Is it allowed to collect businesses this way?
It depends on the site's terms and on the rules where you and the businesses are. Is it legal to scrape Maps? covers both collecting the listings and emailing or calling them.
Questions people ask
Can ChatGPT scrape Maps?
Its help pages describe web search with cited sources, not collecting every listing in a Maps search into a file. For the whole search with phones and emails, use a Maps scraper with its own chat, such as Maps Scraper Pro.
Can ChatGPT generate leads?
It can help you decide which businesses to go after and draft what to say. The list of businesses itself comes from a tool that collects the Maps search.
Is there a free AI Maps scraper?
Yes. Maps Scraper Pro's chat costs nothing, with a daily message limit, and the extension has no charge per row.
Do I need an API key or code?
Not for a scraper's own chat. A workflow in n8n or a script from Claude Code needs a Maps data service's key, and an account with that service for its charges.
Can I build a Maps scraper with n8n?
Yes, by calling a Maps data service from its HTTP Request node. You pay for the n8n plan, and the data service charges per 1,000 records.
Does Maps Scraper Pro have an MCP server?
No. It's a Chrome extension that collects in your browser, and it has no API or MCP server for Claude Code, Cursor or another agent to call. Some Maps data services sell an MCP server as a separate product; if your agent needs one, that's a different kind of tool, billed per record. Every limit of the extension is listed in one place.
Do I need Make, Clay or Zapier with it?
Not for a list you'll work through yourself: the extension gives you a CSV, which any of them can take as a file. You need them when leads must flow into other apps on a schedule, and then the source is a data service with an API, because the extension has none.
